Zeolite
Zeolite is a raw material of volcanic origin containing significant levels (≥ 50%) of zeolitic minerals, which makes it highly effective for various applications, such as in zootechnics. These minerals are hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline-earth metals and possess specific properties such as ion exchange and adsorption.
Since its establishment, Italiana Zeoliti has focused its attention on volcanic tuffs linked to the activity of the Phlegraean Fields (Naples):
- Neapolitan Yellow Tuff (NYT)
- Yellow Facies of the Campanian Ignimbrite (LYT)
Both contain a natural mixture of zeolitized minerals in quantities equal to or greater than 50% and can be used in animal feed as additives belonging to the functional group of binding and anti-caking agents (E566).
Moreover, the levels of undesirable substances (e.g. Pb, Cd, and dioxins) comply with European Regulations 2002/32/EC and subsequent amendments 277/2012 and 744/2012.
The cation exchange capacity of these zeolitized minerals is around 2.5–2.6 meq/g, making them suitable for numerous technological applications, such as:
- Zootechnical Zeolite, used to improve animal health
- Natural Zeolite for Agriculture, as a soil conditioner and for the purification of wastewater and slurry
Phil75®, the Premium Zeolitic Additive by Italiana Zeoliti
Phil75® is a registered trademark owned by Italiana Zeoliti. The product results from a specific industrial enrichment process applied to the raw material “zeolitite,” carried out at the company’s production facility.
It is used as a feed additive in animal nutrition to support the digestive process. Thanks to its detoxifying action, the product removes toxins derived from bacterial degradation and adsorbs ammonium ions in the intestinal tract, thereby reducing ammonia emissions in the environment.
The use of Phil75® as an additive belonging to the functional group of binding and anti-caking agents has been authorized by the Italian Ministry of Health (Office XI – Directorate General for Animal Health and Food Safety), which equates Phil75® with additive E566.
Benefits of Using Phil75®
- Significantly reduces gas production in livestock farms
- Improves the overall health status of animals
- Prevents intestinal disorders (e.g., diarrhea)
- Enhances feed preservation
- Converts slurry into fertilizer
- Reduces purification and waste management costs
Recent studies have also evaluated the possibility of using zeolites in combination with bentonite in winemaking processes.
